RUST INTERCEPT^TM FERROUS SHRINK FILM brings a new and important advantage to shrink packaging --- the addition of built in, active, long term protection of ferrous metal surfaces from rust and corrosion.

SHRINK PACKAGING AND CORROSION
SHRINK PACKAGING involves the use of thermoplastic films that have the property of shrinking with the application of heat. The film is first sealed around an item, forming a bag, which when subjected to heat, shrinks tightly around the item, providing a contour fit. SHRINK FILM is a simple, economical way to package an almost endless variety of products, regardless of shape.

FILM ELIMINATES CORROSION
RUST INTERCEPT SHRINK FILM eliminates these problems by means of corrosion inhibitors incorporated into the film in its production stage. The inhibitor's are a patented blend of volatile corrosion inhibitors which through vapor emittence and contact, counteract the effects of moisture, salt and pollutants.

HOW IT WORKS
Once an item is enclosed in RUST INTERCEPT Ferrous Shrink Film, the film emits VCI molecules which saturate the enclosed airspace and condense on all surfaces of the item. Any molecules of moisture present on surfaces combine with ferrous molecules. As a result, the moisture is rendered incapable of supporting corrosion. The ferrous surfaces are thus passivated. Replacement VCI molecules are supplied from the saturated airspace and the film. In this way interior metal surfaces of the item are continuously passivated from the effects of humidity, salt and acidic atmospheres, alone or in combination. Of equal importance, since so much of an item is in intimate contact with the film, contact inhibitors in the film provide a similar protection mechanism. As a result RUST INTERCEPT Ferrous Shrink Film is particularly well studied for protecting large expensive objects with machined surfaces where corrosion of any sort cannot be tolerated.

SIGNIFICANT FEATURES
AVAILABILITY: RUST INTERCEPT Ferrous Shrink Films are available in extruded construction types SVF and SRF for in or out of door applications.

Type SRF is specifically recommended when continuous outdoor exposure or prolonged and direct exposure to sunlight is expected or where visual security is desired.

Where applicable it is good practice when non ferrous metals are present to test for film/non ferrous compatibility.

ACCELERATED: Mild steel (1010) coupons shrink wrapped in type SVF Film (.006" gauge) and .006" gauge plain shrink film. Both packages were placed in a salt spray chamber (ASTM B117-73) at 100 degrees Fahrenheit, for 180 days.

Note: RUST INTERCEPT Ferrous Shrink Films pass the test for the corrosion inhibiting ability of ferrous vapors as specified in Federal Test Method Standard 101B, Method 4031, including the exhaustion test procedure.

SHELF LIFE: Five (5) years (stored at 85 degrees Fahrenheit or less)

LIFE SPAN IN USE: Protection for the longevity of the package under normal storage conditions.

SHRINKING: Heat shrinkable with propane guns, ovens, and tunnels.

SEALING: Heat sealable with standard equipment.

HANDLING: No special handling precautions required.

RESTRICTIONS: Type SVF film is not recommended for use if subject to prolonged and direct exposure to sunlight.
